Contacting Legislators

To contact a legislator on a particular bill pending now, the most effective way is to call. Between sessions, writing a letter and making a follow-up call (or even better, a in-person visit) is the best route.

Here's how to get the information required for either:

• Call your local county clerk first to obtain both your senate and house district numbers (Click here for a listing of county clerk numbers) and corresponding representatives. Note that some counties contain more than one district - be sure to give your address to get the information specifically pertaining to you.
• To write or call between session, find mailing addresses and the regular phone numbers by clicking here.
• To call legislators in session, call the legislative switchboard to get their number at the Roundhouse: 505-986-4300.

It is definitely worth the time to write, call, or email your legislators and regulators to inform them of your views. You'll feel better, we'll feel better, and they'll both feel and govern better. Few people actually do this, so your letter will have a significant chance of being heard.
